190. Summer: A summary

Summer is about halfway over. Since I’m on a roll writing, here are a few of my favorite things that I’ve experienced thus far.

Favorite Meal: The Omaha Steaks I got from Jack for winning our ultimate soccer bet. We each had picked a dozen teams from various European Leagues. The person with the most points won a box of Omaha Steaks. I won thanks to the dominance of Paris-St. Germain and Bayern Munich. Jack sent me a box of six bacon-wrapped sirloins. I grilled them with my family over Father’s Day weekend. While victory tastes sweet, it was even better with family.

Favorite theme of the summer: It’s been SACCAH. I got to see the USMNT win 4-0 at a Copa America game at Soldier Field. I watched the Champions League Final and a Minnesota United game in the same day. I attended the MN United vs Club Leon game at Target Field. I watched the US vs. Ecuador game and the US vs. Argentina games at Brits Pub with some good friends. I also got my office into the the Euro Cup Finals. I loved rooting on Iceland in the tournament. In a few days, I’ll be going to the MN United vs. Bournemouth (a Premier Leage team) game. And then in August, I’ll be going to the Chelsea vs. AC Milan game at US Bank Field. It’s been a lot of fun watching the games, but it’s been just as great to connect with a bunch of different friends over the sport.

Favorite movie: I haven’t watched a ton of movies. My favorite one in the theater was probably Captain America: Civil War. (That’s a summer movie, right?) I saw it twice. It was fun, intriguing, and filled with enjoyable action. I watched Big Trouble in Little China with Jack down in Lincoln. I really didn’t care for it.

Favorite Book: I haven’t read as many books as I would have liked, mainly because I’m probably on the internets too much. I did get some more Pearls Before Swine books. That’s probably my favorite newspaper cartoon. It’s edgy, fresh, and hilarious. I also like reading the treasuries due to author Stephan Fastis’ commentary.

Favorite Moment: I actually really loved seeing the Cavaliers win the NBA title. I was happy for my friends and family in Cleveland. I was also relieved that the “LeBron as a choker” narrative was put to rest. I like LeBron. I’m also kind of glad the defeated the team with greatest record in regular season history.

Other random things I’ve enjoyed discovering: I really enjoyed my meal at the Burger Jones restaurant. I made it to a game at CHS field with my friend Dave. My friend Addie (and dog Stella!) came to visit from Colorado Springs. And I finally tried Anchor Fish and Chips. (So, so good.) I’m also trying to add to my pint glass collection. I think I have about five now. Oh, and it’s been nice seeing the happiness of many multitudes of friends who have birthed kids the last few months.

Well, that was a good start at summarizing my summer. Hope the rest of it is just as fun.
